Chong to continue raising issue
KOTA KINABALU, Nov 6 (Daily Express) ---
Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Supreme Council member Dr Chong
Eng Leong said he will continue to harp on the illegal immigrant
and other related issues like fake ICs that have been dogging
Sabah because these concerned the sovereignty of the nation.
Dr Chong,
who is also PBS Luyang chief, said it was already mentioned
in Parliament that Permanent Resident (PR) status had been
given to about 17,000 IMM13 holders or Filipino refugees
in Sabah.
"While
it is good that the State Government has already made known
its objection to the move to grant PR status to the refugees
it will be much better if the State Government also says
it wants to revoke those already issued," he said.
Dr Chong
was speaking to about 108 people from Kampung Kopungit and
Kepayan Ridge prior to receiving their membership application
forms to join PBS through his division on Saturday.
They
were led by Kampung Kopungit Rela chief, Richard William
and village head Kiun Salidou. Witnessing the ceremony was
PBS Vice President Edward Yong who is also Tanjung Aru Assemblyman.
Dr Chong
felt there was nothing wrong for the people to continuously
raise the issue so as to keep reminding the Federal Government
"that what is happening in Sabah is wrong".
"This
is not because it's close to election time," he said,
adding that the 108 people had also told him that they chose
PBS because they supported the party's strong stance in
getting a permanent solution to the problem of illegal immigrants
in Sabah.
